In this media briefing, Wärtsilä proposes five key steps to achieve net zero emissions in the power sector. The first step is to accelerate the adoption of renewables such as solar and wind, which are increasingly economically competitive. Next, flexible power generation and energy storage systems are needed to maintain grid stability in the face of the intermittent nature of renewables

Wärtsilä also highlights the role of natural gas as a transition fuel, as well as sustainable fuels such as hydrogen and biofuels to support flexible power generation in the future. With this combination, the energy sector can be better prepared for a low-carbon future. The final step is to build a power system based on 100% renewables supported by energy storage and sustainable fuels. This strategy provides a clear picture for accelerating the energy transition.
