Amid growing demands for high-quality healthcare services, doctors’ ability to communicate effectively has become increasingly important. This is not only essential for conveying diagnoses or treatment plans but also for building patient trust and maintaining the hospital’s public image. With this in mind, Siloam TB Simatupang invited VMCS Advisory to conduct a training titled “Building Trust with Patients & Communicating with the Media.”
This training was attended by doctors, both general practitioners and specialists including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, anesthesiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, ENT, and emergency services—who face complex communication situations daily.
VMCS Advisory designed the sessions as an interactive learning space, combining theory, discussions, and real-life simulations.
In the first session, VMCS Advisory guided the doctors in understanding the importance of empathetic communication as part of clinical quality. Participants learned how to deliver both good news and sensitive information clearly, respond to patient anxiety, and provide reassuring explanations to families.
The instructors also emphasized the role of body language, tone of voice, and appropriate word choice in shaping patient perceptions. Through roleplays and case studies, doctors had the opportunity to view situations from the patient’s perspective, enabling them to create warmer and more trustworthy interactions.
The second session focused on how doctors interact with the media. VMCS Advisory covered how to craft key messages, provide accurate yet easily understandable statements for the public, and handle sensitive questions without compromising professional ethics. Doctors also participated in simulated press conferences to experience firsthand the dynamics of communicating with the media.
Through this training, Siloam TB Simatupang demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the communication competencies of its medical staff. The training with VMCS Advisory serves as an important step in strengthening service quality, fostering better patient relationships, and maintaining public trust.
